Duct Sealing in Lakeland, FL

Duct sealing in Lakeland homes

The back bedroom never cools. Filters gray over in weeks. Attic insulation fibers show up on supply grilles. Those are leak symptoms, not thermostat problems. Return-side leaks pull attic air into the system. That air is hot, humid, and dusty. Supply-side leaks dump cooled air above the ceiling. The blower runs longer and the house still feels damp.

Where the leaks sit depends on the house. Older bungalows and 1950s ranches have rigid galvanized trunks with round takeoffs. The takeoff collars and longitudinal seams open up. Block homes from the 1960s through the 1980s often have fiberglass ductboard plenums where the staples and foil tape have let go, and the interior liner may be shedding. Newer subdivisions run R-6 and R-8 flex through the attic. There the failures are at the boot, the collar, and the inner liner pulled loose from the fitting. Manufactured homes across rural Polk leak at the belly, drawing in soil and rodent debris.

Sealing means mastic on cleaned metal, mechanical fasteners at collars, and new boot-to-drywall seals. Foil tape alone fails in attic heat. We check static pressure and confirm return size first.

Sealing badly crushed or wet flex wastes time. Replace those runs instead.
